The course of Skinbooster treatment
It all starts with a careful consultation
If you are interested in Skinbooster treatment, you should start with a free consultation or an image consultation.
During an in-depth assessment interview, you will get answers to all the questions you have. At the same time you will find out
- whether the treatment is right for you
- whether your expectations for treatment are realistic
- whether the provider is someone you trust and feel comfortable with—where the "chemistry" just clicks.
If you have allergies or if your skin has ever been sensitive to a skincare product, tell your nurse about these too.
Prevent bruising
Skin boosters are administered through multiple microinjections using very thin needles. While the injections are gentle, they can still cause some bruising. To minimize this risk, it's best to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for a week before treatment. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen, and vitamin E. However, prescription medications should never be stopped without approval from your doctor.
Alcohol can also increase the risk of bruising. It’s best to avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24–48 hours before treatment, or even longer for optimal results.
Water is the oldest remedy
During the week before treatment, you should make sure that you stay adequately hydrated. It is also advisable to avoid taking diuretics (coffee, alcohol). When the fluid balance is right, the treatment is particularly effective.
The Sun: Beautiful but Brutal
Avoid sun exposure or tanning for a week before the treatment. Sunburned skin is not a good basis for a skinbooster treatment. Sun damage to the skin is ultimately also a significant health risk.
Next Step: The Treatment
In skinbooster treatment, hyaluronic acid is injected below the surface of the skin in tens of small doses. A healthcare professional trained in aesthetic treatments will be able to master both the dosage and the correct injection depth. When injected in the right concentrations into the right layer of skin, the substance is evenly distributed throughout the dermis. This ensures a uniform treatment result and uniformly natural treatment effects.
The sensation experienced during treatment is usually described as mild discomfort, rather than direct pain. A numbing cream may be applied to the skin before the treatment. Good quality skinbooster products often also contain a small amount of lidocaine, which reduces the pain associated with the injection to a slight discomfort. Each skinbooster patient has a different pain threshold, so the pain sensations associated with the treatment are also individual.
The treatment usually lasts 30-60 minutes. If the areas to be treated are large or if there are many areas to treat, more time than average should be allowed. Although the procedure itself is quick, it is best to take it easy after the treatment. If possible, give yourself time before continuing with the day's activities.
Side effects
Recovery from skin boosters is on average very fast, and most people return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure. However, the following side effects are possible and likely:
- Mild swelling that disappears within 24-48 hours
- Temporary Skin Redness for a Few Hours
- Bruising, which can take a week, sometimes two, to subside
- Tenderness of the puncture sites, lasting 1-2 days
- Papules appearing on the surface of the skin before the product sets; duration from a few hours to a few days
Aftercare
Following the aftercare instructions to the letter will ensure both a smooth recovery and good treatment results.
- Avoid sweating for at least 24 hours after treatment. Excessive sweating may increase the risk of swelling or bruising.
- Take extra care to protect the treated zone from direct sunlight during the week following treatment. This will prevent swelling and discolouration of the injection sites.
- Do not touch, massage or apply pressure to the treated areas, but allow the substance to settle in place.
- Drinking plenty of water can help hyaluronic acid to settle into the skin.
- Heat makes swelling worse, sweating increases the risk of inflammation. Avoid saunas and other hot places for the first few days.
You can get tailored aftercare advice from the aesthetic medical professional who treated you. If the aftercare instructions you find on the internet differ from those of your own practitioner, stick to the instructions provided by the person who treated you.
What about the results
The first results of the Skinbooster treatment are visible immediately after the procedure. The skin appears clearer, brighter, and deeply hydrated. These initial effects come mainly from the intense moisture-binding properties of hyaluronic acid and the skin-stimulating impact of the injections.
The next result - plumping of the skin - is visible after 2-3 weeks of treatment. During these two to three weeks, the hyaluronic acid settles into place and starts to collect a lot of moisture around it. Results are at their best about a month after treatment, when the skin's hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin levels are at their highest. Any touch-up treatment is often scheduled at this time. By doing so, the effects of the treatments are cumulative: the combined effect of the treatment series is greater than the sum of the individual treatments.
Series Treatments, Maintenance Sessions, and Combination Procedures
The timing of Skinbooster treatments is slightly different for everyone.
Guidelines for those considering skinbooster treatment:
- The light Juvéderm Volite treatment can be done as a single treatment every 6-9 months.
- The Restylane Skinboosters treatment is done two or three times every 2-4 weeks.
- Juvéderm Volite and Restylane Vital Light are lighter than Restylane Vital.
- The treatment series often begins with Volite or Vital Light, which can later be transitioned to a more structured Vital gel for longer-lasting results.
- Additional efficacy can be achieved by combining a skinbooster treatment protocol with, for example, collagen stimulation treatments (e.g. Profhilo or SkinPen microneedling).
Once the desired result has been achieved, maintenance treatments are required every 6-15 months, depending on the product. Maintenance treatments keep the skin in perfect condition and appearance between treatments. The results achieved can also be maintained through a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Home skin care products and conscientious skin care routines are also vital to maintaining your results.
