Botox is usually the best, most effective and most affordable solution for fading or correcting wrinkles, fine lines and other age-related changes. Typically, Botulinum treatment is performed on the forehead.
Botulinum treatment is a quick and nearly painless procedure. The initial consultation and treatment planning take about 15 minutes, while the injections themselves only take a few minutes. You can easily start with a free, no-obligation image consultation.
Botulinum toxin is a prescription product used to treat medical and aesthetic conditions. The treatment involves a doctor or a nurse supervised by a doctor injecting the medicine into carefully selected muscles.
Official aesthetic treatment targets for botulinum preparations:
Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a drug used to reduce wrinkles and relieve muscle tension.
During the treatment, small amounts of botulinum are injected into the muscle—or into the skin for microbotox—using a fine needle. The procedure is quick and nearly painless.
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin. When properly dosed, it is an effective and safe drug. "Quantity makes the poison."
The treatment begins to take effect within 4–14 days, with noticeable results appearing within the first week. The full effect is achieved after two weeks.
The effect fades gradually over time, just as it appears. Results can be maintained with repeat treatments, typically every 3 to 9 months, depending on individual response and desired outcome.
The muscle returns to its baseline condition 9-12 months after treatment. Visible results remain unchanged from four months to six months. There are wide individual differences in the duration of results. In our work, we have found that after a few follow-up treatments, many of our clients have prolonged the duration of results.
Botulinum is used both for aesthetic treatments and medical purposes.
Health indications for the medicine:
For aesthetic purposes, botulinum is often the preferred, most effective, and most affordable option. In medical treatments, it can be used when primary methods, such as bite splints or migraine medication, have not provided the desired results.
When botulinum toxin is used for aesthetic purposes outside its officially approved treatment areas, it is considered off-label use.
The platysma, the skin of the neck, is attached to the skin of the neck. This thin, reticular muscle can also be treated with botulinum. After botulinum treatment, the appearance of the neck changes dramatically.
As the tense vertical muscle strands in the neck relax, the effect may also be seen as a slight buttoning up of the jawline.
Botulinum treatment is done with type A botulinum toxin, which is a prescription medicine. Diagnosis, prescription and treatment are the responsibility of the doctor or dentist.
Botulinum toxin is a potent neurotoxin that can be dangerous if administered incorrectly. However, when used properly by a trained professional, it is a safe and effective treatment with both medical and aesthetic benefits.
Botulinum toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine at the nerve endings. After treatment, the muscle in the treated area does not work to its full potential. As the muscle activity decreases, the wrinkles on top of the muscle are also smoothed out.
The effect is clearly visible, for example, after an aesthetic procedure on the forehead and the corners of the eyes: as the muscle relaxes, frown lines, forehead scales and eye protrusions disappear.
On average, the effect of the treatment is noticed on the fourth day after the injection, and the best results are seen two weeks after the injection.
A muscle treated with botulinum toxin does not return to its full baseline state until 9-12 months after the injection. The strongest effect usually lasts between four and six months. If you want to maintain the result, you can repeat the treatment, for example two or three times a year. No treatment is given less than every three months.
The trade names of Botulin include Botox, Vistabel, Dysport, Azzalure, Xeomin and Bocouture. Daxxify has not yet arrived in Europe.
Although Botox is just one of the many trade names for the drug botulinum toxin, the procedure is known around the world as botox treatment. The treatment can therefore be carried out with a product such as Dysport, and is still colloquially known as botox treatment.
At E-Kauneus, aesthetic and medical botulinum treatments are primarily performed using Allergan's Botox or Galderma's Dysport.
Comparative studies of different brands of botulinum preparations are woefully lacking. However, in our years of work we have found that all botulinum toxin preparations work equally well when administered correctly and as directed. This observation is also supported by reliable, albeit rather limited, scientific research evidence.
No, it is not.
Many people considering botulinum treatment start the process either through an image consultation or an in-clinic consultation.
However, consultation is not necessary or compulsory. You can book an appointment directly for botulinum treatment without risk.
A botulinum toxin appointment always starts with a thorough initial consultation, and if the professional finds that for some reason the botulinum toxin is not suitable for the client, the treatment is changed to another or not carried out at all.
If the client has booked an appointment for botulinum treatment and the treatment cannot be carried out, the appointment becomes a free consultation.
During the first two weeks, the result is constantly evolving. The treatment is most effective 10-14 days after the procedure. This is the best time to assess the results of the treatment.
You can come for a check-up 2-4 weeks after your treatment. If necessary, the treatment areas can be supplemented free of charge at the follow-up visit.
A control visit is not compulsory.
Botulinum toxin works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles. This is because botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the release of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) at the nerve endings. When botulinum toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine, the muscles cannot contract normally, leading to muscle relaxation.
The effect lasts for several months. At the end of the treatment period, the lines in the treated area will gradually reappear unless the treatment is repeated.
The treatment is based on muscle relaxation.
Botulinum toxin is not injected into the lips - although it is sometimes injected into the muscles around the lips.
Botulinum toxin treatments can be administered by doctors, dentists or licensed health professionals authorised to practise in Finland. A nurse may administer botulinum treatments if all the following conditions are met:
A nurse may perform aesthetic botox treatments under the following conditions:
When it's done by a trained professional, it's safe. As with all aesthetic procedures, botulinum treatments carry side effects and risks. The most common side effects include headache, eyelid drooping, redness, skin tightness, localised muscle weakness, facial pain, numbness and nausea.
Other side effects may be related to the injection (swelling, redness, pain, puffiness, tingling and swelling). Adverse reactions, possibly related to the spread of toxin away from the injection site, which may be serious, have been reported very rarely with botulinum toxin (e.g. muscle weakness, difficulty in speaking or swallowing, or pneumonia).
Off-label treatment is the use of a botulinum preparation that is not mentioned in the summary of product characteristics.
The officially approved aesthetic treatment areas for botulinum preparations include frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes. Off-label botulinum treatments are used for other areas beyond these approved indications.
Both on-label and off-label treatments are safe when performed by a properly trained, experienced aesthetic medical professional.
Both fillers and botulinum are used to reduce wrinkles and other age-related changes. However, they work in different ways and have largely different uses.
Botox relaxes muscles, and filler fills wrinkles. The form of treatment used is chosen individually according to the treatment objective. Often, botulinum and filler treatments are combined, so that the upper face is treated with botulinum and the middle and lower face with fillers.
The super shiny forehead of yesteryear does not appeal to most of our clients; when completely still, it can look unnatural. The treatment can be done in such a way that expression and movement of the forehead is possible, even if the lines disappear. Dosage is the key. Be sure to let our professional know what kind of result you are looking for.
Our staff have a deep understanding of muscle anatomy and facial structure. This in-depth knowledge enables us to achieve accurate and natural results.
Botulinum is not injected into the lips. If you have seen unnaturally filled lips, they have not been injected with botulinum, but with filler, using the wrong technique and the wrong dose. Botulinum can be injected into the muscles around the lips (lip flip, gummy smile, mouth lift, smoker’s lines), but the results of botulinum treatments for the lower lips are very subtle.
After Botulinum treatment, you can return to your normal daily activities immediately. However, it is advisable to avoid sweating for a few days. Aftercare instructions will be discussed at the clinic and you will also receive written instructions to take with you.
Aesthetic side effects, such as a drooping eyelid, can occur if the treatment is administered incorrectly or injected into the wrong muscle. For first-time botulinum treatments, a conservative approach is often taken, with a smaller initial dose. If needed, the dose can be adjusted at the follow-up visit to minimize the risk of unwanted aesthetic effects.
The common side effects will go away on their own:
Even the rare side effects are transient:
Serious side effects are rare. If the client suffers from an undetected neuromuscular disorder, breathing or swallowing difficulties are possible. If these occur, medical advice should be sought.
