Botox lips

Botox, or botulinum toxin, is not injected into the lips. If it were, the lips would be paralysed. However, the shape of the lips can be influenced by botox. This is done by injecting small amounts of botulinum into the muscles around the lips. A skilled practitioner can use botulinum to reverse the redness of the lips, blur the gummy smile, lift the corners of the mouth and smooth the vertical lines above the upper lip.

Not everyone is bothered by a gummy smile, and there’s no need to be. In many cases, a gummy smile can be a unique and beautiful feature. However, if it becomes too distracting, some people might feel self-conscious and hide their smile or avoid smiling around others. This can ultimately affect their overall quality of life.

Botulinum injections are an effective solution for treating a gummy smile. In the days following treatment, the smile naturally adjusts, resulting in a more balanced and attractive appearance. The effect lasts for approximately three to four months, and regular maintenance treatments every four to six months help preserve the results.

How the treatment works

The treatment for pruritus is a quick botulinum procedure. There are only a few injections and they hardly hurt at all. If the pain is exciting, an anaesthetic can be applied to the treatment area. The pain felt during the treatment can be compared to the bite of a mosquito.

Fading smoker’s lines

Smoker's lines: a nasty name for the vertical roots of the upper lip. Wrinkles occur with ageing for everyone, not just smokers. Every mouthful you give and every sip you take through a straw activates the orbicularis oris muscle around the lips. Of course, daily smoking activates the muscle more than anything else.

As we age, our muscles and skin both show the effects of movement. Vertical wrinkles begin to form above the upper lip. At first, these lines—often called "smoker’s lines"—only appear when you make facial expressions. Over time, however, they become permanent and remain even when your face is at rest.

Botulinum injections are often the best and most effective way to correct or soften The smoker's lines. The treatment takes about 15 minutes and results are visible within a week of treatment. The effectiveness of the treatment is based on the properties of botulinum toxin. Botulinum, or botulinum toxin, temporarily reduces muscle activity in the treatment area. In the lower face, these changes can lead to the corners of the mouth turning downward, creating marionette-like features. This can sometimes make a person look sad, angry, or tired—even when they feel full of joy and energy.

Fixing downturned mouth corners begins with identifying the underlying cause. Often, these issues arise from changes in the muscles and skin, among other factors:

  • The DAO, or depressor anguli oris muscle, begins at the corners of your mouth and extends down toward your jawline. Its job is to pull the corners downward. Over time, due to aging and the many expressions you make, this muscle strengthens, causing the corners of your mouth to droop even more.
  • As we age, our skin loses some of its natural building blocks like hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin. This reduction causes the skin to thin, sag, and lose its ability to bounce back. At the same time, gravity and changes at the cellular level work together to show more visible signs of aging faster.

When the DAO muscle tugs the facial features downward and the skin no longer supports the tissues as firmly as it once did, it can lead to a drooping of the mouth corners.
