Botox lips
Botox, or botulinum toxin, is not injected into the lips. If it were, the lips would be paralysed. However, the shape of the lips can be influenced by botox. This is done by injecting small amounts of botulinum into the muscles around the lips. A skilled practitioner can use botulinum to reverse the redness of the lips, blur the gummy smile, lift the corners of the mouth and smooth the vertical lines above the upper lip.
Botox Defines, Filler Adds Volume
- A filler is a substance that, just like the name implies, adds volume by filling the lips.
- Botulinum toxin fills nothing. The action of Botox is based on its ability to reduce muscle activity. By relaxing some of the muscles around the mouth and leaving others to work normally, the shape of the lips is slightly altered.
The "horrible botox lips" that are often vilified on social media have never seen botox. Overly plump lips cannot be created with botox. If you see unnaturally large duck lips, you see a person who has had filler injected into their lips - too much or with the wrong technique.
