Botox: The Ultimate Fix for Wrinkles
When it comes to treating aesthetic problems, botulinum toxin, or botox, is often the most effective and cheapest - in other words, the best - option. For health problems, botox is usually used when primary treatments have failed to produce the desired results.
Before botox treatment
Before botulinum treatment, the following contraindications, among others, are ruled out:
- a previous strong reaction to botulinum toxin
- pregnancy
- full breastfeeding
- infection at or in the immediate vicinity of the intended injection site
Course of treatment
Botulinum treatments are quick procedures. It only takes a few minutes to inject.
The injection feels more like a mosquito bite than real pain. Anesthesia is rarely needed, but if you’re particularly sensitive to pain, a numbing ointment can be applied. If you’d like an anesthetic, be sure to mention it when booking your appointment.
After BOTOX treatment
The results of Botulinum treatment are not immediately visible after treatment. They will appear gradually over the days following treatment. The best results are seen two weeks after the treatment, at which time the results can also be assessed. A free check-up can be done within 2-4 weeks after treatment. At the follow-up visit, BOTOX can be added to the treated area free of charge.
After Botox treatment, the treated area may have
- redness
- slight swelling
- bruises
Headache, mild dizziness and nausea are also possible side effects. All these symptoms are normal after-effects and will resolve spontaneously within hours of treatment. It takes about a week for the bruising to subside.
Serious side effects are rare. If the client suffers from an undetected neuromuscular disorder, breathing or swallowing difficulties are possible. If swallowing or breathing difficulties occur, medical advice should be sought.
Aftercare instructions
- Avoid touching the treated area for about 8 hours.
- Make-up can be applied and the face can be washed the day after the treatment.
- Avoid strong exfoliants and retinol products for a few weeks. Otherwise, you can treat your face as normal. A gentle skin care routine is best after BOTOX treatment.
- Sweating and bathing should be avoided for a few days after treatment, as should alcohol and blood-thinning medications.
- Other cosmetic treatments or facial massages, for example, are not recommended until at least a week after botulinum treatment.
- The result gradually fades over the months following treatment. To maintain the results, you can seek a re-treatment after, for example, 4-6 months.
Botulinum treatments are priced by region
For example, one zone could be one of the following:
- frown lines
- horizontal forehead lines
- crow's feet at the outer corners of the eyes
- lip flip
