Nasolabial fold fillers - FAQ
Nasolabial folds, what are they?
Nasolabial folds are distinct lines that extend from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. While these lines are a natural part of facial anatomy and don’t need to be completely erased, they tend to deepen with age. As they become more pronounced, they can alter facial balance, impacting symmetry and overall aesthetics. Changes in proportions and symmetry can sometimes create an aged appearance that doesn’t reflect how a person truly feels.
The deepening of nasolabial folds is caused by aging-related changes occurring in multiple layers of the face. While the issue appears on the skin’s surface, its root causes lie deeper—in bone structure, muscle weakening, fat redistribution, and skin composition. When treating nasolabial folds, the primary focus is on restoring the dermal framework, which weakens due to the loss of hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin. Hyaluronic acid fillers are mainly used to replenish the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid reserves, and studies show that the treatment also stimulates collagen and elastin production, further improving skin structure over time.
What about the price?
- For treating nasolabial folds, 1–4 ml of hyaluronic acid filler is typically used. The cost varies based on the type of filler and the amount required.

How long will the result remain good?
A treatment with high quality fillers will maintain good results for 6-18 months.
The duration of results varies depending on several factors:
- metabolism
- lifestyles
- filler used
- treated zone (cheekbones / nasolabial folds)
In highly active individuals, the results of filler treatments often fade faster than average. The quality of the filler also plays a key role—more rigid and cross-linked fillers tend to break down more slowly. However, individual variation is significant, and any discussion of longevity is based on mathematical averages. It’s also common for the results of the first filler treatment to diminish more quickly than those of subsequent touch-ups, as the skin adapts and retains volume more effectively over time.
Does the treatment hurt?
Filler injections do not hurt very much. On the other hand, they are not pampering treatments.
Juvéderm and Restylane fillers contain a small amount of anaesthetic lidocaine, which significantly reduces pain. During the injection, the client often feels pressure, a rush and a slight compression.
If the treatment is performed with Aliaxin filler, an anaesthetic cream can be applied to the face 30-60 minutes before the injection. If you buy Emla cream without a prescription from a pharmacy, you can apply it to your skin at home, for example an hour before the treatment. Anaesthetic cream is also available in the clinic. If you would like to have the anaesthetic cream applied in the clinic, please let us know when you book your appointment so that we can make an appointment that is long enough for you.
Pain, tingling and numbness are normal side effects after filler treatment. Careful adherence to aftercare instructions will help.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Filler treatments are performed by injecting the skin with a synthetic, non-animal hyaluronic acid gel that is almost identical to the body's own hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is capable of absorbing up to 1,000 times its own weight in water. The result of the procedure is therefore based on the excellent water-binding capacity of hyaluronic acid.
